Day 1 of WholeDonna

The decision is made. I'm sticking with it. There will be little variation. I'm adding a touch of cheese and yogurt today and for the following few days to see how my body reacts. I'm going to avoid grains. I will add legumes at some point, but there's no hurry. Wish me luck that my body doesn't reject dairy!
A lovely breakfast that looks a lot like the ones eaten on Whole30. Again, I made too many eggs, so the dog got part of that. First, though, I cut up a zucchini and browned it in bacon grease left over from the 2 pieces of bacon I made (Abbey got one of those too). I added some onion powder, pepper, and sea salt, and when it was time, I added and scrambled the eggs. I had planned on ketchup, but I need to remember that the vegetables and egg combination taste good enough without it.

Ribeye, fire roasted red peppers, mushrooms, and garlic. The ribeye was sort of a bust. There was very little meat on it so I had a couple slices of Genoa salami. The side is banana and a half container of vanilla Greek yogurt. It's almost scary reintroducing anything at all! We'll see how this goes.

1/8 cup of cheese
1/2 container of Greek yogurt
1 french fry
1 bite of cookie
1 teaspoon of relish
and I'm fucking cranky.

Am I cranky because of food or because of lack of sleep last night? Sigh.

Dinner was egg salad, a piece of salami, Romaine, and a tomato. 

I'll try the cheese and yogurt again tomorrow and see how it goes.

Reflections: Here's the bottom line for today. I had cake and ice cream for my husband's birthday celebration. Now I have a big ass headache. I do believe one would call that lesson learned. The icing, though tangy, was too sweet. The ice cream held no attraction. The cake itself was good, but not worth this headache. 

Tomorrow's plan is Whole30 with little variation.

Day 30! First Whole30 almost in the bag

FBS 128 <-- You see that? That's W30 at work. That's the lowest it's been in years, literally.
A wee bit of bacon, eggs with a tomato/green onion blend, and a cuppa Joe. Good food. I'm finding that I can't eat 3 eggs anymore. It's just too much. The dog benefits when this happens, though. 

Lunch was boring. I didn't feel like eating, so I sliced up an apple, rolled up some ham, and had that with a glass of water.

I made a small pot of chicken soup (celery, onion, carrots, garlic, parsnips, a chicken breast, preservative and sugar free chicken broth, pepper, and water) and took it with me to Robin's house to have before we played cards. It was amazing.

Reflections: And so ends my first Whole30. It has been a life-changing event and I wouldn't change it for the world. I'll keep blogging as I plan to keep on going with very few detours.

Day 29 - 29 I tell you! - Winding down the Whole30 Reflections

...eggs. Delicious fritatta type egg dish. I added a healthy dose of pepper too. Mighty fine. 

Lunch was a banana, some sliced ham, green onions, and a few pistachios. 

Pork loin (no sugar curing), broc/cauliflower blend, sauerkraut, and applesauce. Can't have pork without applesauce! 

Reflections:  Today, I am going to the doctor and will discuss what's next with him. Excited to be nearing the end of Whole30, but do not want to undo any progress I've made. 

Update:  I made an appointment to speak with Dr. Hoag about what comes next. He is the one who recommended doing Whole30 to reset my metabolism, lower my blood sugar, and kick start my weight loss, which had stalled in October 2012, after 55 pounds lost. I remember vividly him suggesting this plan and how I was nonplussed about giving up Diet Dr Pepper, Crystal Lite, and bread, not to mention cheese! I literally took a long ride to think about it and whether I could even consider such a stringent set of rules. I left his office that day with me agreeing to start on May 1 and him telling me to do some homework and just do it (on May 1). So, homework it was. I started researching Whole30 on line, ordered It Starts With Food, and started thinking in terms of "yes, I will do this."

I started blogging again on April 22. I started a personal internal and external countdown. I told friends. I posted my intentions on Facebook. I discussed it seriously with my husband as he would be involved with the adventure whether or not he joined me. My sister said something to the effect of, "You can have bacon! You've got this." And then it began on May 1.

A little history that makes the magic of Whole30 happening now perfect timing. I have had a bad left knee for as long as I can remember. Problems came and went and over the years, I've had rehab, taken anti-inflammatories, exercised, and babied it along until 2010. My orthopedist had told me, "When you're ready, you'll know." And I knew. In December 2010, I had the left knee replaced. After a long period of rehab and continued exercise, I could walk again! But then my right knee was done as it had been my compensation for the left knee all those years. I had that one replaced in January of 2012, just about a year later. Again, rehab and exercise, and seriously attacking weight loss and I was walking even better. I have gone to exercise three times a week for a year before the first surgery and ever since the second. I also had my right carpal tunnel syndrome repaired. My body is mechanically sound once more. 

In addition, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in my early 20s. Without going into gory details, my girl parts have never worked right; giving birth to three children was somewhat of a happy coincidence. As I reached my late 30s/early 40s, the internet provided a place to do some research on PCOS, and it turns out that insulin resistance is a huge part of the problem. That, in turn, can and probably will lead to type 2 diabetes. I have been treated for diabetes for a while now, and my blood sugars, especially the fasting blood sugar, has been all over the place, mostly in the mid 200s.

I have also been a spring and fall allergy person. Claritin has been my best friend for weeks, twice a year. 

Enter Whole30. I didn't want to do this. I didn't think I could. But I remember the words from ISWF - "Don't say this is hard." I blogged the before, the during, and now am approaching the after. 

From May 1 through today, I have lost the puff in my face (Dr. Hoag puts the anti-inflammatory effects of the healthy diet in the limelight for this one), I'm down 14 pounds (after losing and gaining the same 2 pounds since October), my blood sugar is near normal, I haven't taken one Claritin at all this spring, and so much more. Energy levels have been great and I don't need my midday nap every day (I have a puppy that gets me up way too early!). My GI tract is happy. My friends tell me I glow. People in my exercise class are asking about this paleo thing I'm doing. My daughter tells me I seem happier than ever. My husband is impressed with the whole concept of W30 and what he sees happening in me. 

I had a followup with Dr. Hoag today and we talked about the future. He intimated that there was no need to reintroduce if I didn't want to. I told him I wanted cheese and he said to be careful, that dairy was his problem. I told him I think my problem is grains/glutens, but that's to be seen on reintroduction. He asked me to stay as close to W30 as I could, but to be realistic. He said that the little bits of sugar in relish or ham would not be an issue after W30. Overall, he seemed pleased that I was able to do it and encouraged me to continue. I told him I was excited to see what my blood work would show at my regular visit in a month or so. He said it will be wonderful. I thanked him for being right about what needed to happen and he reminded me that this was a great low glycemic index way of eating, perfect for someone with PCOS and type 2 diabetes. He also said I didn't need to take a couple of the meds I'm on as they run out. 

My personal plan is to follow his suggestions and to follow what has been working for me. When I asked him why no one suggested something like this to me back in the day, he said that maybe they just didn't know. It's never too late!

My comment to anyone considering W30 is that if I can do this, you can too. 

I will continue to blog, but probably won't photograph every derned thing I eat. I'll share the good stuff with you, though! I believe I will have a few challenges along the way and will be very surprised if I don't. As I mentioned on Facebook, my doctor saw something in me I didn't see. I've trusted his instincts so far and now they are my instincts too. 

The rest of my life begins now - Paleo or Whole30 or whatever you want to call it. It's mine.

Day 28 - Re-reading It Starts with Food

Breakfast was a lot like last night's dinner. I put three small tomatoes in the Magic Bullet and then put them in a pan to cook them down just a touch. Then I added the leftover beef and onions, and let the flavors come together as it was warming. It was like a nice beef and onion soup. I did strain some of the liquid for the dog; she deserves a little goodness too!

Lunch was delicious. Egg salad made with my fresh mayo, mustard, garlic and onion powder, paprika, S&P, and served with tomatoes and Romaine. I ended up tearing the Romaine leaves into the egg salad. The mayo made a huge difference. My husband even had it with his burger for dinner.

And dinner, no picture. I cooked up a hamburger, a post of cauliflower and broccoli, and sliced up strawberries and fresh pineapple in a bowl. Damn, I eat well! Yellow mustard made its way onto my burger and it was great. I found out that Monterey Seasoning does not have sugar or other non-Whole30 ingredients, and I love that on a burger or other beef cuts. 

Reflections: I am indeed reading and re-reading It Starts with Food. I feel like I am just about ready to leave my 30-day comfort zone. 

Plan:

1)  Stick to Whole30 eating primarily.
2)  Add Greek vanilla yogurt (not lite) on Friday.
3)  Add a touch of shredded cheese (not lite) on Friday.
4)  There will be birthday cake on Friday, but that's a one time thing. I doubt I'll have a glass of milk with it. I'm so used to drinking water. 
5)  Make a plan Friday for the weekend.
6)  Continue blogging.  
7)  Shop whole and organic wherever possible.
8) Discuss all this stuff with Dr. Hoag tomorrow.

Day 27 - Nonstop activity

Whoa. I got up around 5:45 and never stopped. I did laundry, went to Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, the grocery store, and back to Home Depot again. We completed garden #2 and picked up the items to complete garden #3. There was a lot of activity and it's been a good day. My husband and I were nonstop today. On to the Whole30.
I put fresh spinach and eggs in the Magic Bullet, scrambled it up, and topped it with crab salsa. 
And yes, that's a smidgen of bacon on my plate. 

Roasted red peppers and mushrooms sauteeing in anticipation of the filet I had with it.

And for dinner, a modified Hungarian goulash with a side of turnips and carrots. I used to eat this with pasta, but you know what? The veggies were great. 

Reflections: We did more today than I've ever known us to get done in one day before. Richard put the patio set together as a last act of the day while I was cooking dinner. We simply got things accomplished. I still have a bit of bird seed to buy and hummingbird nectar to make to fill the other two feeders we bought, but it'll happen. All good things, and all that.

Day 26 - And then there was mayo

I got up and made my husband a nice breakfast so I decided to make myself one too. I sauteed asparagus in the pan which was used to cook the bacon. At the same time, I broiled some tomatoes with seasoning. The bacon looked so good, I grabbed a couple of pieces for myself. I had cut the whole package in half before I cooked it, so my two pieces were kind of like one piece, right? After the asparagus were getting done, I added eggs and some pepper. Nice flavor combinations.

I sorta skipped lunch. I did have a small bowl of dried cherries and almonds, though. 

For dinner, I cut up the leftover meatloaf and tossed it into the remaining chili starter (Tobasso), and the small bowl I had was great. All that meatloaf needed was a smidgen of rehydration!

But that's not the big news. I have been toying with the idea of making mayonnaise  The recipe on TheClothesMakeTheGirl.com kept calling my name, and today it was time. I had already bought eggs, light olive oil, and the dry mustard, and I already had lemon juice. 
I printed out the recipe, and added the lemon juice to a room temperature egg. Would it mess up because I didn't have the lemon juice at room temp???
The first quarter cup of olive oil, the egg, the lemon juice, the salt, and the dry mustard were ready for their first whirl. I had decided to use a hand blender. 
And here we go! After this, it was drizzle, drizzle, and drizzle for about 3 minutes. 
Lookee here - it looks like mayonnaise with a bit of olive oil on the surface. Patience paid off!
A small spatula made quick work of mixing in the excess oil. It also made a good vehicle to get a wee taste for me and my husband (he liked it!). Who knew it was this easy? 

Reflections: It's closer and closer to time for reintroduction. I've decided firmly to reintroduce shredded cheese on a small scale and the formerly mentioned Greek yogurt. The mayo I made today will help. Egg salad, chicken or other meat sandwich, not to mention tuna! I had some after dinner tonight with a small Waldorf salad. Yup, I'll make this again!

Day 25 - Re-reading ISWF

I re-read the re-introduction piece in It Starts with Food this morning after breakfast. My first and second goals post W30 is to not gain weight, possibly lose more, and begin with adding dairy (cheese and yogurt). I'll consider the other groups as I go on.
Green peppers were just what I was missing! This omelette has green peppers, a half zucchini, onions, a touch of bacon, and a side of broiled tomatoes. Much better than yesterday's icky eggs. No more leftover meatloaf in eggs. That was too gross. This morning, I felt like I was eating restaurant foods. The tomatoes were seasoned with a compliant seasoning mix and spritzed with olive oil. S&P were added to the eggs. Perhaps a touch too much salt, but I'll continue to regulate that.

Wowsers - forgot all about lunch and dinner here. Again, I wasn't hungry, so for lunch, I had a kielbasa (Applegate), a half of an apple, and some almonds. I went to a friend's house for a while; I had strawberries and Perrier there. For dinner, it was fish with a Trader Joe's veggie chip coating, tomatoes, and a banana. 

Next comes tomorrow and then a bunch of tomorrows after that.

Day 24 - Egged out!

I do believe I'm egged out for a few days. I was not impressed with my breakfast, but then, I didn't add salt, so maybe it was just bleh.
A bit of bacon, leftover meatloaf crumbled, and 3 eggs. I just couldn't finish it. Even with the side of avocado, it was just plain blah. 
Leftover carrots and green beans were mighty good. Half avocado was supposed to spark up the egg dish, but it didn't. My dog enjoyed about half of the eggs/meat blend and a touch of the avocado. 

Let's hope lunch is more exciting!
Lunch was much better. Steak and a veggie blend of zucchini, mushrooms, onions, and asparagus. At the last minute, I tossed in a small splash of balsamic. Yup, that was the trick. A good lunch was nice to have after a not-so-good breakfast. 

I was not hungry at all for dinner, so tried to think of something that would get me to eat. I have some compliant Apple-something sausages, so cooked one of those and cut it up. I made a salad with cucumbers, Romaine, apple, banana, strawberries, peaches, and a few dried cherries, added the sausage, and finished it with a splash of balsamic dressing and a touch of the juice from the peaches. It was delicious, but I still didn't feel like eating. I ate all the sausage to get my protein and put about half of the salad away. 

It's later in the evening now, and I'm having a bowl of cherries. I wonder why I'm not hungry today? 

Reflections: It has just been a delightful day all the way around. My daughter came by to have lunch and we stood in the kitchen and noshed on fresh strawberries and had some girl talk. Sometimes, you just have a good day. My lack of desire to eat has been puzzling, but I'll take it!

Day 23 - Look at me go!

One of my favorite breakfasts! 3 eggs, broccoli/cauliflower mix, S&P, toss in the Magic Bullet, blend, add to hot pan with some healthy fat in it, and cook. Sometimes it turns out like a big pancake, but today, not so much. I topped it with some pulverized tomato. Numtastic.

After exercise/before lunch BS: 101 - got a banana on the way home from the pool just in case. 
Again with the leftover broc/cauliflower? Why yes, again. Lunch also included mushrooms and a filet. 
Dinner was meatloaf cooked in cupcake tins so I could easily freeze in portions, along with a carrot/green bean mix. I had a bit of pineapple afterward. It was canned and it sucked. I'll stick with fresh from now on. 

Reflections: One of my pool exercise mates said "You look like you've lost more weight." I told her I had. Then she asked me how to find out more about Whole30. She also has diabetes and I know it would be great for her, but she needs to research it herself. I shipped off all my 2X-3X-4X to MO for Lisa to send to OK. I'm sure there's a woman of plus size that could use them. I also never plan to wear them again, so that's that.

Day 22 - Hard to believe!

Hard to believe I am close to taking off my training wheels, but I am.

My breakfast sucked. I tried to recreate my pumpkin/egg/fruit dish from yesterday, but it didn't work out so well. I used pineapple instead of shredded apple, and I forgot the vanilla. The texture was all wrong. I may have used too much almond flour too because it was really crumbly. I didn't eat most of it, but I did try. I'll have a lunch most excellent to deal with the breakfast fail.

The last of my chicken/cabbage/carrots was my lunch. I drained the liquid this time and added some clarified button on top. That's that the yellow blobs are. It was more delicious than before.  
For fruit, I cut up a banana and added some organic raspberry spread (Trader Joe's) after checking and double checking the label. The tastes went well together. 

No pictures for dinner. I cooked a cauliflower/broccoli blend for a side dish and to have for breakfast and lunch tomorrow. Love that stuff. Then I got to choppin - lettuce, half apple, half avocado, 2 small tomatoes, turkey, and a splash of dressing (compliant!). I forgot my pecans! Anyway, it was a huge, filling dinner and now I have fixins for two meals tomorrow. You'll have to wait and see what those are.

Day 21 - I got this

Take a minute to review the progress photos.
A bit of bacon rendered, a tomato chopped, salt and pepper, and a couple of eggs. Who wouldn't like that for breakfast?

How about something different for lunch? Based on a recipe from Nom Nom Paleo.
About a cup of organic pumpkin, about 1/8-cup almond flour, 2 extra large eggs, a half apple shredded (it was hanging around waiting to be used), a healthy dose of cinnamon, and a splash of coconut milk. I cooked this in my GT Xpress and it's pretty good. I think I'd  add a touch of lemon juice and nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice. The texture is interesting. Sort of halfway between pie and cake, sort of muffinish. Pretty good if I do say so myself. 

So what to make for dinner? 
I had defrosted a boneless turkey breast, so I seasoned that and put it in the toaster oven. While that roasted, I chopped up a sweet potato and then pulverized some pineapple and put that in the pot with the sweet potato. I added a couple spoonfuls of the pineapple juice (had to add water closer to the end of cooking time) and some pumpkin pie spice. For Richard, I cooked fries in the oven and he made some corn. We sat down to a really good dinner. Who says turkey is for Thanksgiving only? The Fresh Market sells a mighty fine turkey breast. I cooked it in foil, so it stayed juicy. I left what we didn't eat in the oven to finish cooking and to be sliced for sandwiches tomorrow. (Mine will be in lettuce!)

Reflections: I find myself hungry in the afternoons moreso than the evenings. I had a bowl of cherries this afternoon. I also reached a goal of losing 65 pounds total. I have about 44 to go, but dang, what a hellova start!

Day 20 - Looking ahead

I am officially on Whole30 for 10 more days. Then what? I'll be working on that "what" for the rest of my life, methinks. I know some people do a Whole30 from time to time. I wonder if a gut and metabolic reset once month out of each year is worth considering.
This morning's fare includes fried tomatoes and a couple of eggs. It turned over as a whole and was quite tasty with only salt and pepper as seasoning. 

For lunch, I had leftovers - cabbage, carrots, chicken, with a banana on the way home from the gym.

It was time for steak for dinner. I put the asparagus and mushrooms in the pan with the filets.  
A side of avocado with compliant salsa, and dinner was complete. I had a small bowl of cherries to top it all off.

Day 19 - It's bacon!

Okay, shoot me. I had 2 slices of bacon with breakfast. Other than the pancetta at Whole Foods (an hour+ away), I haven't found any bacon or ham cured without a 'trose or sugar or maple syrup or, or, or. Other than that, my delicious breakfast is compliant as all get out.
Scrambled eggs with green onions, broiled tomatoes with Greek seasoning and olive oil spritzed before broiling (cut up on the plate), and the evil bacon. I doubt this will send me to the chocolate aisle or piss off my gut but so much. We'll see how my 2 hour BS is. It was 145.

Lunch was last night's leftovers, the chicken "soup" without the liquid. The liquid itself is now home to some cabbage, carrots, and more chicken. I also had a half-apple with cinnamon (the right cinnamon this time!). 


Day 18 - Accidental sugar!

Breakfast - Is there anything zucchini can't do? I sauteed it with some onion in clarified butter until it was well done, then added a couple of eggs and cooked till they were done. Topped it all off with a pulverized tomato. Yum.

Lunch - A simple fruit combo. The cantaloupe was a little meh, so I didn't eat it all.  
On the other hand, the chicken sauteed with asparagus tips and a tomato were a delight. 

Before dinner, I sliced up a half-apple to have while I cooked. I mistakenly picked up the cinnamon sugar rather than the cinnamon. Ooops. I didn't die, but I really almost decided to not eat them. I hit them with the regular cinnamon and moved on. There was so little sugar on them. I also did not wipe the apple slices in the cinnamon this time as I knew there was some still on the plate. 
I put on a pot with water, a chicken breast, celery, onions, carrots, garlic powder, a bay leaf, sage, and some salt and pepper, and let that cook until the chicken and veggies were done. I didn't eat the soup part tonight, but will have some of it tomorrow with the leftovers. I'll cook some cabbage in any leftover chicken stock. I finished off with a few cherries. Sigh, they're gone now. A midday snack was a sliced banana with cocoa dusted on it. Pretty good.

Reflections: Look at what you're using to season your food, idjit! The apples that were dusted with real sugar were super sweet. It was a tiny amount, but it tasted huge. That was an eye opener. I've learned that I like cocoa on fruit and it quells the chocolate beast. Richard ate both popcorn and potato chips tonight and I never even thought about dipping into them. My energy was off the charts today. Interesting!

Day 17 - Busy girl

Forgot the FBS. Got up and hit the ground running and ended up not having breakfast right away. Ooops!
But when I did eat breakfast, it was mighty fine. I sauteed a julienned zucchini and some onion. While that was cooking, I cut a ribeye into small pieces. When the veggies were just about done, I tossed in the steak and browned it.  
Last, I added a touch of tomato sauce. I cooked this down for a little while and when the zucchini was tender, it was time to eat. Yumtastic!

Day 16 - Dag, the dog gets up early

My German Shepherd. How I love her. BUT, it would be nice if she would stop getting me up at 5:30. It's a necessary up; she has business to take care of. Argh. Onward.
Breakfast - broccoli and cauliflower blend warmed up and topped with prosciutto  The leftover veggies had clarified butter in them already, so I didn't add any fat. Eggs and tomatoes in the processor then cooked in the same pan. Very tasty. It looks a wee big gross, but it was mighty fine.

After exercise BS 112. Shortly after I got home, I had a low, so I gobbled a few cherries to stabilize. 

Lunch is no picture. Rib eye, mushrooms, onions cooked in the same pan. In another pot, I cut up a sweet potato and apple, added a splash of coconut milk and a touch of cinnamon and cocoa. I let that simmer until the fruit and sweet potato were soft, then used the immersion blender to make a warm pudding of sorts. I sprinkled pecan bits on top. The apple/sweet potato blend was absolutely wonderful. I'll make it again, probably with less apple. The pecan added a nice crunch. So far, so good.

Day 15 - From starving to meh

I was "hungry" all day yesterday. I doubt it was a real hunger, but there you go. Today, I couldn't finish my breakfast, but I did what I could. I ate the eggs and as many of the veggies as possible.
Leftover beef and veggies with chili sauce from last night and a couple of scrambled eggs. I used the same pot for the eggs, so they picked up some good flavor from the meat/veggies. I finished it off with a few salted almonds. I ate about half of the leftovers. I'm sure I'll be hungrier at lunch.

2 hours PP BS 140
Oh my bejebus! I bought some cocoa yesterday. I had read to use it as a spice. So, I sprinkled some on some Granny Smith slices and zapped it for a minute. The apple was sweet enough to take on the cocoa and give it a fantastic chocolate bite. Yum yum. Good discovery!

Lunch was a rib eye steak and carrots. The carrots were so good cooked with the steak. I had bought  a few rib eyes yesterday and cut them in half. I don't usually want a whole steak for lunch. I seasoned the steak with garlic powder, of course. No fruit with lunch today.

A little something different. Chicken tenders, mushrooms, asparagus, and prosciutto. I was going to wrap and bake the asparagus tips, but I was hungry and it was getting late. So, I just tossed it all in the saute, and let the clarified butter do its thing. The strawberries are the last of the ones I picked yesterday. The cantaloupe was bought today to go with dinner. It's not as much as it looks like; I cut it into very small pieces. I skewered a piece of chicken with the fork, then a piece of fruit. A bite of goodness! I had a few almonds and then set about making more clarified butter.

Reflections: Nothing special today. I ran out and picked up some fish and chicken, and when I put it away, I realized how different my freezer looks. I'm looking forward to exercise tomorrow. I feel like I've been a slug today, but I really haven't. Wonder why we think these things. That's an issue for another day.

Day 14 - Almost forgot to blog

I had a delightful breakfast of broccoli and cauliflower combined with eggs and topped with tomato sauce. it looks a lot like my last few breakfasts, so didn't take pictures.

Post exercise/pre lunch BS: 116

Lunch is a modified krautflekerl. I used chopped cabbage, onions, garlic powder, pepper, and chicken tender sauteed in bacon grease and olive oil. I steamed it for a while with some chicken liquid (I put the icky parts in water and cook them for the dog). It was good, but it was not krautflekerl. I had a banana on the way home from the Rec Center. I was tres hungry!

I pretty much stayed hungry today! I had a trip to the grocery store and, man, has my shopping changed. I spent a lot of time in the veggie/fruit section and then the meats section. This store doesn't have diddly for fish, so I'll have to get that elsewhere. Maybe tomorrow.
This was a fun dinner. I had some ground sirloin to which I added mushrooms, onions, and shredded parsnips. I sauteed that in a bit of olive oil and then added a splash of Kitchen Bouquet (not sure I like it) and some Tabasco Chili Starter. I wanted something green, so I drained some green beans and put those in. Mighty flavorful and different. I like using the chili starter as a seasoning sauce as much as using it for chili. 

I had a few almonds and pistachios as well as a half of an apple with cinnamon. I think that's my only indiscretion for today. I've been extremely "hungry" today and I'm not sure why. Day 14 down and no one has been exterminated yet!

Day 13 - Lucky for me!

FBS 174, weight down 60

Okay, I know I'm not supposed to weigh, but I do. I've been waiting to get past the down 59 mark for a while, and today, I did. Yay me!
Another amazing omelette in the GT Xpress. 3 eggs, broccoli, green onions, and a tomato. There's a bit of steam rising as it is photographed. 
I found out Hunts tomato sauce is compliant. I am like a pig in poo happy. I love ketchup and I also love this sauce, so who needs ketchup? I'll be using this as a very viable substitute. I'm fine with the tang of it. 

Before lunch BS 118 - you see that?  one one eight!

No pix for lunch. Filet with a little olive oil used in the cooking, and with mushrooms, green onions, tomatoes, garlic powder, and pepper added. I had 4 strawberries (all gone - boo hoo) and a few dried cherries. We'll see how the 2-hour PP looks in a bit. 

And then there was dinner. Talapia with crushed vegetable chips, pan fried in clarified butter and olive oil; broccoli and cauliflower; cucumbers; and then a bit later, some peaches. 

Reflections: As much as I hate to say it, I think this is the thing for me. The blood sugar readings are the key to my thoughts. I'll be curious to see what my followup blood work shows in July.
