And so it begins

Whole30 and I have a 30-day date starting tomorrow. I'm ready. I think. I snacked like a mofo last night, but tonight am back to normal. I have a watermelon with my name on it in the frig for real trouble times. It's about the sweetest fruit I can think of. Peaches, kiwi, apples, orange, and soon strawberries in the frig. Zukes, Romaine, broc, cauliflower, coconut this and that, and other stuff awaits.

I'll log and well, probably blow off a bit of steam, make reflections and all that stuff right here. Watch me go!

Whole30 -2 days and counting

I wasn't gonna do it, but I went and got a few things to have for snack and to say farewell to. I made spaghetti for dinner too. I've been reading and re-reading pages on the Whole9 site, and keeping up with the CrossFit Facebook page. Groceries are purchased and I'm about ready.

I'm not worried. I'm not scared. I will miss some carbs, but I'll miss cheese and beans more. Let's hope the end result of reintroduction is that it's the carby/starchy items that are the problem and not dairy and legumes. We'll see! That's part of the puzzle - what is screwing up my stuff and what isn't. Blood sugar going down and and weight loss, well, they'll be part of it too.

Here we go, Whole30. Here we go.

Walking and pre-Whole 30 training

I have a couple of things going on. I begin Whole30 on May 1. Yup, 2 days from now. I've been weaning off of high carb, sugary, artificial ingredient foods. The second thing is the 8K I signed up for which happens on December 8. Richard and I are going to walk it and Tom and Allison are going to run it.

I have added a day of walking exercise to my two days of pool exercise in order to train and keep up my activity. Yesterday, Sunday, the 28th of April, I walked down Duke of Gloucester Street (DOG), stopped at the Capitol to have a few sips of water and give my knees a 3-minute break. Interestingly, the song playing in my ears at the time was The Staple Singers doing Respect Yourself. After that, I walked back up DOG and ended up waving to Winnie on the web cam at Merchants Square before I explored the art show that was happening. Total of 40 minutes walking. I need to use RunKeeper next time to see how far I went.

I read an article most excellent today. The Whole30 timeline. I am still encouraged that I can do this with little problem. Thanks to my doctor for suggesting this whole thing!

8 days till Paleo

I opened my last Diet Dr Pepper last night. I have about half of it left. I'll have that with lunch. I will drink Crystal Lite for a few days and switch over to water. I probably will buy stock in a lime orchard; I can see me flavoring water with lime.

I scoured through the freezer to see what needs to leave and what can stay.

And, I continue to read It Starts With Food, the Whole30 program book.

Here we go!

Going Paleo

My blood sugars have sucked major ding dongs in the last however many years I've been checking them, especially in the mornings. A couple weeks ago at my regular checkup, my doctor suggested Whole30 as a way to determine what foods are causing the hormonal/metabolic issues; in other words, what foods I may be allergic to on a metabolic level. The more he talked about it, the more disgusting it sounded. No potatoes, bread, pasta, and other typical carbohydrates. Carbohydrates come from fruits, vegetables, and meats. That's about it. It's not that simple, of course. I agreed to give the month of May over to the concept, purchased the book, and have been educating myself.

A friend suggested keeping a blog, so here you go. We're making a shift in topic and hope to learn something from our observations.
